BigTrak at Red5

Big trakBigTrak at red5
When I asked a group of people recently what toys they had when they were kids someone came up with Big Trak! They loved it - programming it and getting it to go around their home! It was a mega toy back in the 80s.
If you're after a retro toy then bigtrak is just the thing!
BigTrak is a six-wheeled robot tank had a front-mounted blue photon beam head-lamp; and a keypad on top which you used to program a sequence of moves.
It could remember up to 16 commands which it then executed in sequence around the room!
In the 80s computer processing power came in the form of the ZX Spectrum (or if you’re lucky the lesser known ZX Spectrum +3 with integrated floppy drive and light gun attachment)!
BigTrak was so popular that it couldn’t even escape the clutches of the Cold War - conflict even reached the toy market with Soviet Russia cloning the popular toy and calling it the Elektronika IM-11!
But now.......The Big Trak is back! Once again you can enjoy the thrills of the easy to programme computer and then press GO and watch your Big Trak and is responds to your commands - forwards, backwards, turning and making futuristic laser firing sounds!
Carry out your own programme of moon roving exploration (otherwise known as your living room)! This revivial is in part due to the efforts of a small but dedicated Internet community who have reverse engineered Bigtrak and the Texas Instruments TMS1000 microcontroller inside it.
Whether you remember the original or are a new-comer to the Bigtrak scene, we’re sure it’ll be a big hit with both young and old. The Bigtrak Is a great educational toy, teaching the basics of computer programming and robotics, whilst also being great retro fun!
Features:
- Retro programmable robot vehicle
- Features ‘save’ function so you can save your favourite routes
- Trailer accessory coming soon!
- Measures approx. 34cm (l) x 22cm (w) x 15cm (h)
- Requires 3x D size batteries.

Hexbug nano at Red5

Saturday, August 28th, 2010
hexbug nanoHexbug nano at red5 The hexbug nano are small robot insects. They're very cute and very insectoid! They have a switch underneath which when you turn it on they instantly buzz into life. They'll move around on their own and scurry away. They can right themselves if they fall over too and will buzz round for hours on either your desk, the floor (not carpets though) or in their own little track! They've got 12 legs and buzz about just like insects. They feel like bugs if you hold them in your hand and if you pour a few out on to your desk girls will run screaming from them! They're aimed at kids but big kids will love them too. Think of them as robot insect pets that you can make tracks and mazes for! Buy a couple and you can have hexbug races! They're a great gift for people in an office - get everyone one and you should be able to spend Friday afternoon's playing hexbug racing!
Features of the Hexbug nano at red5

- Self righting mechanism
- Dimensions: 4 x 1 x 1.5 cm (or in other words it will rest on your finger tip!)
- Batteries included
- Not suitable for children under 3 years old
